Day 1: Building a company in Norway: Real-time stories from our journey

Marianne Svanevik and I just launched an online and personalized Long COVID Recovery Program. It tells people exactly what to do to fully recover and provides ongoing support throughout the journey.

Send us an email to recoverlongcovid@gmail.com to learn more (a free option and two paid ones are available).

The story of how the program came to be is a fun read https://x.com/MSvanevik/status/1820421068844052780, but if you’re too exhausted to read it, here’s the gist:

Marianne's program worked so well for me that it felt unethical to not share it with others.

So, based on her method we built an online program that anyone with Long COVID can do from their own home whenever they want to start.

Sharing real-time stories from building in Norway

But this is not a post about Long COVID, it’s about building in Norway.

The last company I was part of creating, http://hava.co, is registered in Sweden, so this is the first time I’ve ever built something from scratch in Norway. Wouldn’t it be cool to read stories about our “customer experience” from building in the land of the fjords?

I think so, and going forward we’ll do that. Maybe some politicians will take a look and start reflecting on how Norway can become the best country in the world for building companies.

Below is our first short story.

Day 1: Registering a company in Norway: Super easy and suuuuuper slow

Today we started the process of registering our company in Norway.

We used http://Fiken.no and filing in the necessary paperwork for the AS was extremely easy and fast - it took less than 15 minutes and was all done electronically.

I was impressed.

The only thing that sucked massive donkey balls was answering the following question:

“Do you foresee receiving money from abroad?”.

We aim to help people all over the world eventually, so I clicked “Yes”.

Big mistake.

Up came the drop-down menu from hell where you had to select all the countries, one by one, that you could ever imagine receiving money from. There were no checkboxes, only the ugly drop-down, so doing this would take years.

I changed the answer to “No” as perhaps we'll never receive any money from abroad. We’ll update the bank once we know. ;)

After that and signing the documents we were done! Or so I thought… but nope.

It turns out that before the company is registered officially, Folio (the bank we chose) needs to do something (God knows what) and they estimate that this will take 1-2 weeks. Then, the Norwegian company registry (Brønnøysundregisteret) needs to do something and Fiken estimates that the process will take 1 MONTH.

What the f***!

I turned from impressed to depressed. One month is slow ^cubed.

So that‘s our first real-time story from building in Norway - I wish this could all be done in 15, not 43 200, minutes.

I’ll let you know once something more happens.
